Gregory Hudson: A Journey Through Art and Sculpture
Gregory Hudson always had an eye for creativity. Born and raised in Miri, Sarawak, his passion for art led him to pursue a diploma and degree in Fine Art at UiTM. He didn't just want to create—he wanted to build, to bring visions to life in ways that people could touch, see, and experience.
In 2016, fresh out of university, Gregory took his first step into the professional art world as a Junior Artist with Sanderson Group, working on the ambitious Movie Animation Park Studio project. It was an exciting time—his hands were shaping the dream of an entire theme park. But after a year, he felt the urge to grow and take on more responsibilities.
That opportunity came in 2017 when he joined Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak (PKNP) as a Maintenance Artist. Over time, his dedication and leadership skills earned him a promotion to Team Leader of the Art Department. Managing a team was a new challenge, one that demanded not just artistic skills but also problem-solving and leadership. Yet, after two years, Gregory found himself longing for more creative freedom.
So, in 2019, he took a leap of faith—freelancing. It was a bold move, but one that allowed him to carve his own path. He worked on prop sculptures and public sculptures across Malaysia, each project leaving a unique mark on landscapes and cityscapes. The life of a freelancer wasn’t always easy, but it was fulfilling. His work stood in public spaces, admired by thousands, making all the struggles worthwhile.
In 2022, an exciting opportunity arrived. Gregory joined Pico Play to contribute to the Gamuda Splash Mania Waterpark project. Working on large-scale themed attractions was a perfect match for his skills. But contracts come to an end, and once the project was completed, he returned to freelancing.
Then, 2024 brought a new chapter. Gregory rejoined Pico Play, this time as a Level 1 Artist. It wasn’t long before he was entrusted with leading a team to develop a crucial sample for the Discovery SEV650 project. His experience and leadership stood out, and by the end of the year, he earned a promotion to Artist Supervisor.
With the promotion came a major assignment—Riyadh. For three months, he would work on an international project, bringing his expertise to a new environment. It was a challenge, a responsibility, and an adventure all rolled into one.
From a fresh graduate to an industry leader, Gregory’s journey was built on passion, risk-taking, and relentless pursuit of growth. And even now, as he works in Riyadh, he knows this is just another stepping stone—his story is far from over.
